Who is the course aimed at?
Staffordshire or Stoke-on-Trent residents aged 19+, or employed by a Staffordshire or Stoke-on-Trent business. Must be working in or have experience in an allied trade
Entry Requirements
Open to the public but must meet the pre-requisites for the F-Gas course - which requires Level 3 certification in Heating, Ventilation or Refrigeration, or be from an allied trade.
What you will learn
The course covers an introduction to oxy-fuel brazing, providing candidates with the opportunity to get to grips with brazing techniques and best practices to perfect their skills. Candidates will then complete the LCL Level 3 Award in F-gas, which covers the following modules -
System sizing calculations
Installation of pipework (cutting, bending, flaring, brazing, compression joints)
- Pipe insulation and fixings
- Condensate pumps (various)
- Pressure testing
- Evacuation
- Charging with refrigerant
- Commissioning and efficiency checks
- F-Gas documentation and reporting
The final section of the course will be hands-on practical Continuing professional development in how to install air conditioning units.
Learning Materials
You will be provided with all of the tools and materials required for completion of the course, alongside paperwork, textbooks and any subsidiary literature. You must wear suitable clothing for any in-centre sessions, steel toe-capped boots/shoes, full length suitable trousers and long sleeved tops. Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided.
Learning Methods
You will receive a mixture of classroom based theory training, along with workshop based hands-on practical training. Some remote revision activities will be required ahead of your assessments.

This will be dependent upon what has been declared on the application form.
How you will be assessed
You will be assessed via online theory examinations and also practical assessments.
What can learners progress onto
Following the successful completion of this course, learners will be able to register with Refcom and work on refrigeration and air-conditioning.
