Who is the course aimed at? 

Staffordshire or Stoke-on-Trent residents aged 19+, or employed by a Staffordshire or Stoke-on-Trent business.

This Skills Bootcamp is a great way to upskill or retrain into first steps of construction roles and retrofit.

The purpose of this qualification is to develop learners’ knowledge and understanding of domestic retrofit and the role it plays in improving energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions in existing homes

Entry Requirements

You will not require previous knowledge in the subject.  You will need a willingness to learn and the intention to move into employment if you are unemployed.

Learning Materials – What you need to bring

All learning materials will be provided

Learning Methods

You will learn through a series of practical and theory workshops.  All practical workshops will be delivered face to face and the theory workshops will be delivered through a combination of face to face and online.  Full instructions will be provided on how to access any online workshops

Learning Support 

At the start, we’ll get to know you and understand any support you may need. We’ll check in regularly and tailor support to help you succeed. Your tutor will guide you throughout so you feel confident and stay on track. You’ll also have opportunities to ask questions and get extra help if needed. If you’re unemployed or looking to progress, we can support with confidence building, interview preparation, and understanding what employers expect.

Course Assessments 

We will spend some time initially getting to know you and your starting point, as well as what your interests and goals might be.  Throughout the programme, we will check in to see how you are getting on and how you are progressing in your learning.  

For the AIM Qualifications Level 2 Award in Understanding Domestic Retrofit, Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment and Highfield Level 1 Award in Environmental Sustainability Awareness, you will complete a multiple choice examination/external assessment.

What can learners do next? 

Throughout your Skills Bootcamp, you will be provided with information and advice about employment opportunities available to you.  This includes one-to-one support to explore your goals, build confidence, and recognise your transferable skills. You’ll also get tailored help with CV writing, job applications and interview preparation, whether you’re unemployed, looking to progress in your current role, or growing your own business.
