Who is the course aimed at?
This Skills Bootcamp is aimed at qualified plumbers and heating engineers looking to upskill and expand their expertise into low-carbon heating technologies. It is designed for individuals already working in the sector, including self-employed plumbers, those employed within domestic and commercial settings, or those seeking to progress their careers into renewable energy.
The programme is particularly suited to those holding relevant plumbing or heating qualifications (e.g. Level 2 or Level 3) who want to develop knowledge and practical skills in the installation, commissioning and maintenance of domestic air source and ground source heat pumps.
It supports professionals looking to diversify their offer, respond to increasing customer demand, and align with government net zero targets and industry expectations. The Bootcamp also benefits employers by enabling their workforce to gain the competencies required to deliver compliant, energy-efficient heating solutions.
Learners will develop both theoretical understanding and hands-on experience, ensuring they are prepared to apply heat pump technologies confidently within the workplace and access new opportunities within the growing low-carbon heating sector.
Entry requirements
Learners must hold a recognised Level 2 or Level 3 plumbing and heating qualification, or have a minimum of 3 years’ experience installing wet central heating systems, evidenced by Gas Safe, OFTEC, MCS, HETAS or manufacturer certification.
Course content
The purpose of this qualification is for learners to be able to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to plan, select, install, commission, maintain, service and repair air source heat pumps systems within the Building Services Engineering (BSE) renewable sector, this will include pre requisite qualifications as required by individual candidates - BPEC Air Source Heat Pumps, BPEC Water Regs, BPEC Unvented hot water, BPEC Low Temperature Hot Water Systems

Course will be delivered through blocks of blended theory and practical activities in our purpose build Net Zero centre

You will be fully supported throughout the programme. Experienced tutors provide one‑to‑one guidance, additional support is available where applicable. Learning is inclusive and supportive, with clear feedback, regular check‑ins and help to overcome barriers, ensuring you feel confident, capable and ready to progress into work.

Throughout the programme a range of assessment methods will be used including:
- Multi choice assessment
- Online awarding body assessment
- Practical skills assessments
What can learners do next?
Upon completion, learners can progress into air heat pump installation roles, expanding their service offer within the plumbing and heating sector. This Bootcamp supports career progression into low-carbon heating, access to renewable work, and progression towards gaining MCS accreditation, ensuring compliance with current industry regulations.

This course is fully funded, so there are no course fees.
