Who is the Skills Bootcamp aimed at?

This Skills Bootcamp is for adults aged 19 or over who live in Stoke‑on‑Trent or Staffordshire, or who work for a business in these areas. It is for people who are looking for work, want a fresh start, or are ready to make a positive change. The course is welcoming and supportive, and is ideal for those returning to learning, building confidence, or taking steps towards new future employment in hospitality or catering.

Entry Requirements

You will not require previous knowledge in the subject. You must have a good level of English including reading, writing, speaking and listening. You will need a willingness to learn and the intention to move into employment.

Course Content

Learners will develop front-of-house and customer service skills, including communication, customer interaction, service standards, handling enquiries and complaints, teamwork, professional presentation and workplace behaviour. The programme reflects real hospitality environments and prepares learners for customer-facing roles within hotels, restaurants and visitor services.

Learning Methods

Learning will be face to face at both the Cauldon campus in our professional kitchen and Burslem campus for employability sessions.

Learning Materials

All learning materials are provided

Learning Support

We want everyone to feel supported and able to do their best on this course. If you need extra help with learning, reading, writing, maths, technology, or for a disability, health need, or personal reason, support is available. You can tell us at the start or at any time, and we will work with you to put the right support in place.

How you will be assessed

At the start of the bootcamp, we take time to get to know you. We talk about what you can already do and what you want to learn. Together we set clear goals and check progress as you go. Learning is checked through ongoing discussion, practical work and review of progress. Your learning is shown through practical work and regular reviews. Skills for work, like teamwork and communication, are recorded in a simple learner workbook.

What can learners do next

After completing the Hospitality Skills Bootcamp, learners can progress onto further level 2 courses at the college. Learners can build on their skills, gain recognised qualifications, and move closer to skilled employment or an apprenticeship in the hospitality industry. You will be guaranteed an interview after this bootcamp.
