Who is the course aimed at
The course is ideal if you're returning to work or looking to kickstart your career in a new industry. On completing the course, it will provide people with the skills that employers recognise and are looking for when hiring. The Skills Bootcamps are funded by the UK government, meaning they're available at no cost providing the eligibility criteria is met. For employers, you will pay a small proportion of the costs, which is often 10% for small/medium-sized businesses (SMEs with fewer than 250 employees), or 30% for larger employers.
Entry requirements
You must be 19+, have the right to live in the UK, live or work in Staffordshire, not be enrolled on another government -funded course at the same time, commit to the full course and have a good standard of English & Maths
Course content - what you will learn
This is a professional qualification for those who wish to pursue a career as a Domestic Energy Assessor (DEA). Once qualified, DEA's register with an Accreditation Scheme which accredits them to produce Energy Performance Certificates. The Retrofit Assessor course will cover the Retrofit Assessor role. The course will meet regulatory requirements and use Accreditation Schemes. It will also improve Employability skills.

Learning methods
Learning will take place at one of our venues based in Staffordshire & Stoke by our Tutor who specialises in Green Skills. Delivery will include 7 days on the Domestic Energy Assessor and two days on the Retrofit Assessor. The practical tasks will be delivered on site assessing domestic properties. Key knowledge will include Introduction into domestic energy assessment, soft skills, building structures, non-traditional buildings, property elements, heating systems, heating controls, hot water systems, insulation, measuring buildings and property dating.
Learning support
You will have a dedicated tutor throughout the programme, who will adapt their delivery to suit your individual needs. There is also an engagement officer assigned to the course, who will support with pastoral needs. We complete a neurodiversity screener during the sign-up process, which helps us to understand how you prefer to learn, and the things you may find more difficult. We provide support with accessing technology where needed.
How you will be assessed
To achieve the DEA qualification learners must achieve four mandatory units: 1. Conduct energy assessments in a safe, effective and professional manner 2. Prepare for energy assessments of domestic properties 3.Undertake energy inspections 4.Produce and explain Energy Performance Certificates relating to domestic property. The Retrofit qualification includes understanding the principles of PAS2035, energy efficiency advice, understanding retrofit standards, retrofit assessments, building physiology, occupancy assessments, appraisal of a dwelling and producing a condition report.
What can learners do next/progress onto
Throughout the Bootcamp you will be provided with information and advice about employment opportunities available to you. A positive progression will include a new job, apprenticeship or if employed, a new role or additional responsibilities which could lead to an increase in salary. Everyone who completes the Bootcamp will be guaranteed an interview
