Aim of the course
This introductory IT course is designed for adults who have little or no experience using digital technology and would like to build their confidence with everyday IT skills. It is ideal for anyone who wants to learn how to use computers, smartphones, tablets, and the internet more effectively in their personal life.
The course is particularly suitable for individuals who would like to improve their ability to communicate online, manage emails, access online services, and use the internet safely. It is also beneficial for those who want to gain confidence in activities such as online banking, shopping online, and protecting themselves from scams, fraud, and other online risks.
Whether you are returning to learning, looking to become more independent in managing day-to-day tasks, supporting family members with technology, or simply wanting to keep up with the increasing use of digital services, this course provides a supportive and practical introduction to essential IT skills.
Entry requirements
Staffordshire residents aged 19+, those interested in developing their basic computer skills.
Course content
This IT introduction course takes you through the computer basics. You will confidently learn how to send an email and add attachments. You will learn the steps to take to keep yourself safe online when accessing the internet.
How you will learn
The trainer will deliver the course in a friendly and welcoming classroom environment. You will have the opportunity to work independently and with your classmates in a range of activities and discussions.
Course materials
Laptop or Tablets will be provided. You may wish to bring along a notepad and pen to capture hints and tips along the way.
Learner support
Learners will take part in an initial assessment prior to the course starting to identify starting points and agree and supports needs you may require. Some venues may have limited accessibility, please ask for further details if you want support with this.
Learner assessment
No formal assessments take place. Informal assessments occur via observations, activities and group discussions to assess your progress and set learning goals or objectives.
What can learners do next/progress onto?
Learners can progress on to other Acorn or Staffordshire community learning courses to continue your progression. Support will also be given to access accredited courses or volunteering or employment opportunities.
