Chemical Lane scheme
Staffordshire County Council is planning to start a highway drainage improvement scheme to help address a long-standing flooding problem at Chemical Lane, Longbridge Hayes.
The new scheme involves installing a gravity drainage system which will take surface water from the current carriageway. The scheme starts from the double bend (near to A1 Skips) which is prone to extensive flooding and finishes by connecting into an existing drainage outfall 220m to the south, opposite to the premises of Mobile Applications. Following trial hole works during week commencing 18th May, a revised design is currently being finalised in conjunction with key stakeholders including Network Rail.
When are the works taking place?
- Start date: Monday 13th July 2026
- Duration: Approximately 14 weeks
When will the works be completed?
- Expected completion: Late October 2026
Will I be able to access my home/business?
- Works will start under a full road closure from 13th July. Access will be maintained at all times, to all businesses, via each end of Chemical Lane/A500 junctions, with signing provided.
- Diversion routes will be signed for all local traffic; there will be no through traffic in the work area.
What effect could the works have on me?
- A full road closure in place you are advised to follow the signed diversion and give yourself additional time when travelling.
