• Staffordshire County Council is setting out a long-term plan for maintaining roads, pavements, bridges, streetlights and drains.

• The policy will use evidence and data to prioritise work where it will have the biggest impact for residents and offer best value.

• If approved, it will guide future highways investment from 2027/28 and support the council’s case for more government funding.

Staffordshire’s gritting routes are being reviewed for the first time in 10 years to make sure they still support communities, businesses and key journeys.

There will be no immediate changes this winter, and no currently treated routes will be removed.

The council already treats more than 40% of the road network and has 21,400 tonnes of salt capacity ready for winter.
