A ten-year-old Staffordshire resident is encouraging families to get out and explore the county this half-term by following the Staffy Trail.
Nancy Lovatt, from Cellarhead, is the lucky winner of a family day ticket to Drayton Manor Resort in Tamworth, after entering the ‘Staffy’s Pawsome Day Out’ prize draw celebrating the tenth anniversary of Staffordshire Day.
The competition was organised by Staffordshire County Council as part of the wider Staffy Trail tourism campaign, delivered through the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Local Visitor Economy Partnership (LVEP).
More than 300 children turning ten this year entered the competition, with Nancy’s name drawn at random.
An enthusiastic explorer of the Staffy Trail, Nancy is now encouraging others to join the adventure and discover the county’s unique public art and heritage trail.
The Staffy Trail launched as part of the celebrations marking ten years of Staffordshire Day and is designed to encourage residents and visitors to explore more of the county, support local businesses and discover new places.
More than a thousand people are already taking part in the trail, which is free to join.
Nancy said:
“I think the Staffy statues are really good and really fun! I love looking at them and finding them all. I’m looking forward to going on the trail next week with my mum and sister.”
The Staffy Trail features a series of uniquely designed sculptures located across Staffordshire, each celebrating the county’s heritage, creativity and communities.
Robin Hall, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy and Skills, said:
“Well done and happy birthday to Nancy!
“She’s one of over a thousand people on the trail that are discovering our county, its history, heritage, and how our people and places really do make us the beating heart of the county and the nation’s playground.
“The feedback on the trail has been fantastic. People are really enjoying our celebration of everything Staffordshire and supporting local businesses along the way.”
Families taking part in the trail can unlock rewards at each Staffy sculpture using the dedicated app, with a range of exclusive offers available, including:
- 20% off entry to the gardens at Trentham Estate when unlocking ‘Muddy Paws’ in Stoke-on-Trent
- 10% off books at The Bookery at Amerton Farm
- Adult admission for children’s prices at Rodbaston Animal Farm
- A free topping on drinks at ChaNoMa in Tamworth
Visitors who complete the trail across Tamworth, Stafford, Stoke-on-Trent and Lichfield by the end of the half-term holiday will also be automatically entered into ‘Staffy’s Surprise Draw’ for a chance to win a free day out in Staffordshire.
People can also enjoy additional Staffy-themed activities at the Staffordshire County Show on Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 May, where children will have the opportunity to design their own Staffy and take part in a mini trail experience.
Anyone can get involved by downloading the Staffy Trail app at www.visitstaffordshire.com/staffy-trail/ or by picking up a printed map from any Staffordshire library.
