School displays across county celebrate 10 years of Staffordshire Day

Oxhey First School Biddulph

Eye-catching displays are appearing across the county as part of the Staffordshire Day 10th Anniversary celebrations which bring top visitor attractions and primary schools together.

The Primary Attraction Action project is organised by We Are Staffordshire, the county’s place brand and marketing agency. It has brought together Staffordshire’s visitor attractions and local primary schools to showcase pride of place, creativity and collaboration, helping to tell the county’s story through displays, installations and visual celebrations that highlight what makes Staffordshire special.

From historic landmarks to cultural venues and visitor favourites, attractions across the county are getting involved, offering residents and visitors alike the chance to experience Staffordshire Day celebrations in inspiring and engaging settings.

One of the schools taking part in the project was Oxhey First School in Biddulph. It worked with Middleport Pottery.

Head teacher Kate Proffitt said:

We have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the project. It has been a wonderful opportunity for Oxhey pupils to engage with the rich heritage of our local area through the partnership with Middleport Pottery. Projects like this are so valuable as they enhance and enrich our curriculum and bring learning to life. We are delighted that our pupils' artwork will be showcased at Middleport Pottery this month and proud to be sharing the creativity and talent of Staffordshire's young people."

Victoria Astridge, Heritage and Learning Manage at Middleport Pottery said:

We are thrilled to have been part of such an important and enjoyable project. Seeing the pupils engage with their local history and make such creative and inspired responses to what they learnt has been so rewarding.

Hopefully, the students now know more about where they live and how many amazing places are on their doorstep, the history behind them and they can be a little prouder and more knowledgeable about where they live.”

Martin Murray, leader of Staffordshire County Council, said:

The Primary Attraction Action project is a key part of the wider Staffordshire Day programme. It shines a light on our county’s unique identity, heritage and creativity, while bringing attractions and partners together to collaborate.

This, along with our Staffy Trail, launched just last week, means there is plenty for people to get out and about and enjoy across Staffordshire, offering engaging experiences that inspire local pride and attract visitors to discover everything the county has to offer at the beating heart of the country. This shows why we’re the nation’s playground.”

People are now being encouraged to explore the displays and support participating attractions. As opening times and display dates may vary, visitors are advised to contact attractions directly to confirm when displays can be viewed and to plan their visit.
