A highways scheme to improve road safety in Biddulph is due to start on Monday 23 February.
The A527 Congleton Road scheme will see an extension of the 30mph speed limit beginning at the junction with Grange Road, continuing up to the boundary of Forge Cottage. The new 30mph speed limit replaces the original 40mph.
The scheme is being delivered by Staffordshire County Council and will help improve road safety for both pedestrians and vehicles.
Works are scheduled to take around three to four days to complete, weather permitting. Crews will also be undertaking minor vegetation clearance to improve visibility to the new signs and installing additional road markings to highlight the new speed limit.
To make sure the works can be carried out safely, the road will be closed each day from 8am to 4pm, with traffic lights being removed at the end of each day where it is safe to do so. A signed diversion route will be in place via the A500, A34 Newcastle Road and A34 Congleton Road for the duration of the closure.
Patrick Allen, Cabinet Support Member for Highways North at Staffordshire County Council, said:
“Keeping our roads safe remains our priority and these safety improvements follow concerns about speeding traffic from the local community.
“Reducing the speed limit from 40mph to 30mph by the double bends on the road, the new road markings and improved visibility should help to keep the area safer. As ever, I’d like to thank people in advance for their patience and co-operation during the works.”
