Repairs scheduled for section of main road damaged by fuel spill

The surface of a section of main road damaged by a diesel spill in Stafford will be repaired by one of the county council’s highways crews this weekend.

A 475-metre section of the A518 Weston Road close to the approach to the County Showground will be replaced with a new surface following the spill last week.

With half of the road width section being replaced, a full closure is needed overnight this Saturday 21 March. This has been scheduled to take place between 7pm and 7am to minimise disruption, particularly to events at the showground.

A signed diversion will be in place during the overnight closure along Beaconside, A34 and A51.

Patrick Allen, Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet support member for highways said:

The diesel spillage a week ago has damaged the road surface on this busy section of the A518 close to the County Showground and so it was important we moved quickly to repair it properly as quickly as possible.

We’ve planned the works to take place overnight on Saturday to minimise disruption, though we apologise in advance for any caused and would urge people to allow extra journey time for their diversion.”
