£2m highways scheme in Staffordshire Moorlands to begin next week

A crossroads, Cellarhead

Beginning on Monday 2 February, the £2 million scheme should take about six months to complete.

The investment in the local area will include replacing damaged ironwork and kerbs, as well as resurfacing the carriageway along the A520 Leek Road.

Crews will undertake the works under lane closures and nighttime closures for the road resurfacing.

Residents will still have access to the surrounding roads for most of the scheme, although crews advise that delays are likely during the resurfacing work. A diversion route will be in place for nearby properties, though no through traffic will be allowed.

Patrick Allen, Cabinet Support Member for Highways at Staffordshire County Council, said:

“This is an important investment for the Staffordshire Moorlands and will have a big impact on keeping our roads reliable and fit for the future.

“The Cellarhead junction and A520 Leek Road is a well‑used route and these improvements will make a real difference for residents and all those who travel through the area.

“Our crews will do everything they can to minimise disruption while the work is carried out and I’d like to thank everyone in advance for their patience as we deliver these much‑needed upgrades.”
