Poplar Lane resurfacing works completed in Cannock

A £193,550 scheme to resurface Poplar Lane in Cannock has now been successfully completed.

Highways crews from Staffordshire County Council carried out a 15-day programme of civil engineering works and carriageway resurfacing between the junction of Hatton Road and Squirrels Rest on Poplar Lane.

The works included removal of the existing road surface, resurfacing of the carriageway and the installation of new road markings.

These improvements will help extend the life of the road, improve the driving surface and reduce the need for future reactive repairs.

The completed works form part of the county council’s ongoing investment in maintaining and improving Staffordshire’s highways network, supporting safer journeys and better road conditions across the county.

This week, the authority agreed it’s £138 million Highways and Transport capital programme for 2026/27, which will see scores of roads around the county resurfaced or preventatively treated.

Daniel Cecil, Staffordshire County Council Cabinet Support Member for Highways South said:

It’s good to see these works on Poplar Lane now completed. This investment will make a real difference to the condition of the road and provide a smoother, safer journey for residents and everyone who uses this route.

These works form part of our 2026/27 highways maintenance programme, which will see three roads in Cannock resurfaced, and many more undergoing a preventative surface dressing treatment.

I’d like to thank local people for their patience while the improvements were carried out.”
