Plans have been submitted this week for a new health centre in Burntwood which will improve services and make them more accessible for the community.
The project will deliver a new health centre for the residents of Burntwood on land off Milestone Way, Burntwood. Local healthcare services are currently provided from Salters Meadow Health Centre, a temporary facility on the Burntwood Leisure Centre site and the Darwin Medical Practice branch site in Chasetown.
The new health centre will replace these facilities and aim to improve local healthcare services. The site will also house NHS community-based health services. This will help teams work more closely together. It will also provide more joined-up, accessible care for local residents.
The planning submission has been made in line with the target timeline that was shared with the public earlier this year. This is thanks to the collaborative work between Staffordshire County Council, NHS Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Integrated Care Board and Entrust.
Lichfield District Council will now consider plans before making a decision. Members of the public will have the opportunity to comment. The next stage will be to obtain competitive prices from building contractors for the construction of the health centre, if planning permission is granted.
Martin Murray, Staffordshire County Council’s leader, said:
It’s fantastic news that the plans have now formally been submitted for the new health centre in Burntwood – this means so much to the community and will be an invaluable asset for years to come. We know there’s an urgency to seeing this facility up and running and people can be assured we’ll work with our partners to move things forward as quickly as the process allows. The project has remained on schedule, so I’d like to commend everyone involved.
With such an important project, community liaison has been vital, and local county councillor Robin Hall has made huge efforts here to engage with the delivery team on behalf of residents. Robin has actively monitored progress and continued to have detailed discussions with the team to keep delivery on track.
We’re committed as a county council to ensuring our residents receive all the support they need to remain healthy, active and independent for as long as possible. This project is demonstration of how we’re working with our partners to achieve the very best for our communities.”
