People aged 40 to 74 living in Staffordshire are being encouraged to find out their ‘heart age’ by booking a free NHS Health Check.
Delivered by Everyone Health Staffordshire, the checks are designed to help spot early signs of conditions such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes and high blood pressure, while providing practical advice on reducing risks to stay well for longer.
People get a personalised heart age card at the end of their 20–to-30-minute session, showing whether their heart is older, younger or the same as their actual age.
Eligible adults will not have had a check in the last five years and not already have certain long-term conditions such as heart disease, diabetes or kidney disease.
Martin Rogerson, Cabinet Member for Health and Care at Staffordshire County Council, said:
“The idea of ‘heart age’ is a powerful one and it really brings home how healthy your heart is in a way that’s easy to understand. I know from my own experience, having had a heart attack when I was 47 years old, just how important that is.
“I would particularly encourage men to come forward, as we know they are often less likely to get checked, even when they feel well. These conditions can develop without symptoms, so this quick check could make a life-saving difference.
“It’s also something couples can do together, so why not come along as a pair, support each other and take a simple step towards staying healthy for longer.”
Zoe Williams, Deputy Service Manager from Everyone Health Staffordshire, added:
“We often see people who feel completely well, but their results tell a different story. That’s why these checks are so important. They can pick up problems early when something can still be done about it.
“The ‘heart age’ result really helps people understand their health in a simple way, and it often gives them that extra motivation to make small changes that can have a big impact over time. Our team is here to make the process friendly, reassuring, and easy from start to finish.”
NHS Health Checks are free and carried out by friendly trained professionals. Residents only need to roll up a sleeve to get started.
