Nine out of 10 parents will learn today that they have been allocated their first-choice secondary school in Staffordshire.
Of the 8,111 offers made for a Staffordshire secondary school at age 11, 93.2% per cent were for a first-choice school, compared to 91.6% last year.
Nearly 99 per cent of applicants have been allocated one of their top three preferred schools.
Last year the national and regional average was around 83 per cent.
Parents were given until the end of October to apply for a secondary school. Since the closing date, the council’s admissions team has been working with schools and neighbouring authorities to ensure as many parents as possible receive a place at one of their preferred schools.
Janet Higgins, Staffordshire County Council Cabinet Member for Education said:
“We know how important secondary school places are to families and for the young people themselves, so I’m really pleased that nine out of 10 Staffordshire parents have secured their first‑choice school this year, with almost all applicants receiving one of their top three preferences.
“These results reflect the hard work and commitment of our admissions team, who have worked closely with schools and neighbouring councils to allocate thousands of young people a secondary school place for the coming year. It’s also testament to parents who really help our admissions team out by getting their applications in either on or before the deadline date, and making sure they put down a total of three preferences. These small actions really make a difference when it comes to allocating school places.
“I wish all young people due to start a secondary school in September the very best in their continuing educational journey.”
Most parents will be receiving emails and letters from today (Monday), informing them of where their child will be attending school in September. National Primary Offer Day will be 16 April 2026.
