Works to install a new zebra crossing on Tean’s A522 New Road in the Staffordshire Moorlands will begin on Monday 1 June.
The £100,000 road safety scheme will see the installation of two integrated belisha beacons with street lighting and associated ducting, tactile paving, and carriageway resurfacing on the approaches to the crossing.
The works are expected to take around two weeks to complete, with working hours between 8am and 5pm each day, weather permitting.
To make sure the work can be done safely, most of the scheme will be completed under a single-lane closure using temporary traffic lights. However, from 9 to 12 June, a full road closure will be required to allow resurfacing and road marking works to be completed.
During the closure, a diversion will be in place via the A522 Uttoxeter Road towards the A50 roundabout, continuing along the A50 to the A521 Uttoxeter Road. The diversion will continue via the A521 Cheadle Road into Cheadle to rejoin the A522 Tean Road, and vice versa.
Some sections of footpath will also be temporarily closed at times during the works, but alternative pedestrian routes will be provided throughout and both sides of the footway will not be closed at the same time. Access to properties and businesses will be maintained wherever possible and crews will be doing their best to get the work done as efficiently as possible.
Patrick Allen, Cabinet Member for Highways North at Staffordshire County Council, said:
“Keeping road users and pedestrians safe is a key priority for the county council.
“This is an important road safety scheme for the village that includes a new crossing on what is a busy road. It will help make it safer for people walking in and around the village and when accessing local amenities, shops and schools.
“I’d like to thank residents, businesses and road users in advance for their patience and cooperation while these important highway safety improvements are delivered.”
