A key roundabout in Cannock will undergo repair works this week.
Highways crews from Staffordshire County Council will carry out anti-skid repairs and ironwork adjustments to the Church Street and Old Hednesford Road roundabout.
Works will be carried out on the 21, 22 and 23 October between 9.30am and 3pm, outside of rush hour to minimise disruption.
These works will involve patching to the anti-skid areas on the approach to the roundabout, and complete ironwork repairs to the gullies located on the island.
Works be carried out in stages so the roundabout can remain open throughout, helping local people retain access to nearby shops and businesses.
Further screeding works to fix defects will be carried out via an overnight closure will be carried out at a later date.
Dan Cecil, Staffordshire County Council Cabinet Support Member for Highways South said:
“I’m really pleased to see these repairs taking place. The initial repairs will improve the approach to the roundabout, and by doing these works outside of peak hours, will hopefully minimise disruption to motorists. The team are also timetabling repairs to the roundabout itself, and we hope to have these scheduled in soon.”
Roundabouts can be harder to repair than regular roads. Traffic comes from several directions at the same time, and they are often key routes that need to be kept open. This often means crews working on one part of the roundabout at a time.
Dan Cecil, Staffordshire County Council Cabinet Member for Highways South said:
“Roundabouts can be a lot trickier to repair, and need much more careful planning to minimise disruption. This is why often we will repair a road but leave the roundabout for a later date. Church Street, because of its location as a main route into Cannock and to the A34, has had to be very carefully planned to ensure we can make the most of the works, but minimise inconvenience to motorists and residents.”
