Families in South Staffordshire are getting help to thrive thanks to a range of support from the county council’s Family Hub.
Based in Great Wyrley on the grounds of Ladywood Primary School, the hub supports children, young people and families across a large rural area. Working closely with partners, staff make sure support is available within local communities rather than families having to travel long distances for services.
The hub offers health visiting, midwifery appointments, targeted family support, SEND support, a weekly Youth Hub and more.
Throughout the summer holidays, an exciting programme of free family activities will also be available. These include school readiness sessions, stay and play events, family fun days, youth and teen activities and community-based support drop-ins across the district.
Nick Lakin, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People at Staffordshire County Council, said:
“Supporting children, young people and families to thrive is a key priority for us, and our Family Hubs are playing a vital role in making that happen.
“Working alongside community organisations, schools, libraries, health partners and voluntary groups means the hub can reach families in villages, towns and rural locations right across South Staffordshire.
“It’s great to see families thriving, helping parents feel confident, supported and connected within their communities.”
One of the hub's key developments this year has been the introduction of a new Leadership and Resilience Programme for young people. It helps them build confidence and emotional awareness, encouraging them to recognise their own potential and become positive role models within their schools and communities.
The hub also delivers 0-5 activities and school readiness sessions that help children prepare for starting nursery or school. And for parents with school-aged children, the free school uniform scheme, provides good quality pre-loved school clothing to families who may benefit from additional support.
