The Lord-Lieutenant of Staffordshire is calling on people across the county to help make the tenth anniversary of Staffordshire Day a celebration to remember by organising their own events and activities.

Taking place on 1 May, with festivities continuing across the bank holiday weekend, this year’s Staffordshire Day is set to be the biggest and most vibrant yet.

People are being encouraged to host events over the Staffordshire Day bank holiday weekend that showcase everything the county has to offer. These could be community festivals, local markets, guided walks, creative workshops, family activities and more. There are countless ways to get involved and bring people together.

The Lord-Lieutenant of Staffordshire, Professor Elizabeth Barnes CBE, said:

“Staffordshire Day is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our county and the people who make it so special. I would encourage everyone to get involved and play your part.

“Why not organise a local event, bring your community together, or showcase the fantastic creativity, heritage and talent we have here in Staffordshire? It’s a chance to celebrate where we live, support local businesses and create something memorable for residents and visitors alike.”

This year’s celebrations will also feature the launch of the Staffy Trail, a major new public art experience delivered by the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Visitor Economy Partnership (LVEP) in partnership with Making Trails and local artists.

The trail will feature a series of larger-than-life Staffy sculptures popping up across the county. Inspired by children’s ideas and brought to life by local artists, each one has its own unique personality, and visitors will be encouraged to snap a photo with Staffordshire’s favourite four-legged guide along the way.

Located across Stoke-on-Trent, Stafford and Tamworth, the trail will encourage people to explore town centres, discover local stories and support nearby businesses.

Darryl Eyers, Staffordshire County Council’s Director for Economy, Infrastructure and Skills, said:

“Staffordshire is the nation’s playground, with lots of active and adventures attractions and activities on offer at the heart of the country, and Staffordshire Day is the perfect opportunity to showcase that.

“We’re encouraging communities, businesses and organisations to get involved, put on events and help bring our towns and villages to life over the bank holiday weekend. It’s a chance to celebrate everything that makes Staffordshire special, while also boosting local tourism and supporting our visitor economy.

“Let’s make the tenth anniversary of Staffordshire Day a celebration to remember.”

Anyone planning an event that would appeal to visitors is encouraged to submit it on the official Visit Staffordshire website to help attract audiences from across the region and beyond.

Organisers of ten community events will receive fully-funded Staffordshire Day flags and other promotional items.

The digital Staffy Toolkit includes everything needed to help promote events, products and activities as part of Staffordshire Day celebrations with graphics, poster templates, logos and more available to download here.
