Foster carers honoured at special Staffordshire awards ceremony

Rising Star Award winners Dawn and Robert Brinkley

Staffordshire foster families have been recognised at a special celebration event highlighting their dedication to providing safe and nurturing homes for some of the county’s most vulnerable children.

Foster carers and staff came together for the third annual Fostering Star Awards, hosted by Staffordshire County Council’s Fostering Service, which celebrated the commitment and positive impact of local carers.

Among the award recipients were Dawn and Robert Brinkley from Uttoxeter, who received the Rising Star Award after beginning their fostering journey in April 2024.

They said:

“We were really surprised and humbled to receive an award today. We’ve really enjoyed our experience of fostering so far, it’s not always been easy but there is lots of support around you when you need it. We’d encourage anyone out there who is thinking about it to get in touch with the team and join us.”

Nick Lakin, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People at Staffordshire County Council, said:

“Our fostering awards are a great opportunity to say thank you and celebrate our fantastic team of foster carers, special guardians and supported lodgings hosts for everything they do.

“To hear their stories and experiences is truly inspiring. It’s always great to see the difference they are making in the lives of the children in their care.

“We are always looking for more foster families, so please get in touch with us if this is something you have ever considered doing."

Other carers also recognised were Julie Clarke in the Inspirational Foster Carer category, Craig Hill for Inspirational Supported Lodgings Host, and Derek and Jane Dodd in the Unsung Hero category.

The awards ceremony took place at Lea Hall in Rugeley on Friday 22 May.
