People are being invited to show their support for the armed forces as the county raises the flag for Armed Forces Day celebrations on Saturday 27 June.
Leading the nation’s commemorations is the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas, who will be marking the event with a special remembrance service and a host of fun family activities across two days.
A series of events and services will take place across the county and people can find events near them on the Armed Forces Day website. People are also invited to join the #saluteourforces campaign by sharing photos of themselves saluting to pay tribute.
Staffordshire County Council will also be flying the armed forces flag from Shire Hall in Stafford over the weekend to show their support.
Martin Murray, Leader at Staffordshire County Council, said:
“Armed Forces Day gives us the opportunity to come together to recognise the courage, commitment and sacrifice of the men and women who serve our country, past and present.
“Their dedication protects our freedoms and keeps our country and communities safe in what are quite uncertain times.
“Across Staffordshire, we remain proud of our strong links with the Armed Forces and are committed to supporting veterans, reservists, serving personnel and their loved ones, now and in the future.”
Gordon Munro, Vice-chairman of Staffordshire County Council and a former member of the armed forces said:
“For Armed Forces Day we proudly raise the flag across Staffordshire in honour of the courage, dedication and sacrifice of our armed forces community.
“This day is about more than ceremony. It is about gratitude for our serving men and women, our reservists, our veterans, and the families who support them through every challenge and sacrifice.
“To everyone who has worn the uniform, I say thank you for your commitment, your resilience and your service to our nation. Your contribution matters deeply, and it is sincerely respected. Let us celebrate our Armed Forces with pride and gratitude, and never forget the debt we owe to them.”
Staffordshire County Council remains committed to supporting its armed forces communities, leading the Staffordshire Armed Forces Covenant partnership and holding a Gold Defence Employer Recognition Award for its ongoing work to support the employment of the Armed Forces.
The authority is also encouraging businesses and organisations to join them by signing the Covenant and pledging their support to the Armed Forces community. More information on the Covenant can be found on its webpage.
