Families facing financial hardship in Staffordshire will receive help under a new Government fund.
The new Crisis and Resilience Fund provides short-term support for eligible families and individuals struggling with the cost of living or in immediate financial crisis.
Staffordshire County Council has received £8 million for the period April 2026 to March 2029.
The new fund will see a renewed focus on early intervention, increased access to local advice and support alongside the provision of crisis payments.
Eligible households can get help towards the costs of energy, heating oil, food, household essential items, white goods, emergency childcare/transport, and uniform/clothing.
Support for housing payments will still be available through local borough and district councils.
Nick Lakin, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People at Staffordshire County Council, said:
“The Crisis and Resilience Fund is a national scheme being rolled out to provide short-term help to eligible Staffordshire people facing an immediate financial crisis.
“This very much focuses on supporting payments for urgent essentials such as food or fuel bills while people get back on their feet, rather than ongoing financial help.
“With fuel prices soaring in recent months, help is available to those generally on low incomes who are struggling with the cost of energy bills.
“The Crisis and Resilience Fund will also allow us to provide more targeted, joined‑up local support to those who need it most, while also helping people build longer‑term financial stability.”
Families can be referred for crisis payments by professional referral through approved referrers or through the 1-to-1 financial wellbeing coaching service. Further information is available on the fund’s webpage.
The Crisis and Resilience Fund will be discussed at the next meeting of the county council’s Cabinet on Wednesday 17 June.
