Dads from across Staffordshire are being encouraged to make the most of the support available to them and their children through local Family Hubs ahead of Father’s Day on Sunday 21 June.
Staffordshire County Council’s Family Hubs are based in communities across the county. They bring together a wide range of services under one roof to give families easy access to support at every stage of childhood.
From early years activities and well-baby clinics to school nurse sessions and SEND support, the hubs are designed to help families thrive.
Supporting dads is an important part of the hub’s role and two dads are already providing family support with the number of dads getting involved growing week on week.
Mark Watson, Family Hub Coach, said:
“As a dad of two young children myself, I feel like I’ve been through the ups and downs of early-years parenthood and it’s great to now be in a position to offer everything from advice & support to a friendly ear and a cup of coffee to local parents and families.
“A core focus on the whole family unit is at the heart of the Family Hub and I’d love to see as many fathers/male carers as possible walk through our doors and take advantage of the fantastic support being offered by the Hub and its surrounding partners.”
Nicholas Lakin, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People at Staffordshire County Council, said:
“Our Family Hubs continue to grow as busy and welcoming spaces and it is vital that dads know these services are very much for them, too.
“Every dad has something to give and gain from the wide range of activities and support at our Family Hubs and I encourage each of them to come along and get involved. With the chance to get advice, learn something new or meet fellow dads, a trip to your local Family Hub is worth the time.”
Phil, a dad from Leek, said:
“It’s been great to spend time with my child in a supportive setting. The sessions are relaxed and the staff are very friendly, and you always come away with something useful.”
The council is also working with charity Fatherhood solutions to get a Dads Welcome accreditation. This recognises organisations that actively include and support fathers within their services. It demonstrates a commitment to ensuring that both parents are recognised as important contributors to children’s wellbeing and development.
