• Stafford-based organisation Baby Bank supports hundreds of families with essential items for babies and young children for free.
• The group relies on volunteers and donations from residents and businesses.
• Family Hubs provide one-stop-shop for a variety of services.

Programme of improvements for Staffordshire schools approved

• Plan for improving and repairing Staffordshire schools over 2026/27 period approved by Cabinet.

• Capital Programme for Schools 2026/27 will see facility upgrades and building repairs at over 60 schools.

• Improvements also include sustainability upgrades to improve insulation and be better for the environment.

£400,000 Walsall Road resurfacing works due to start

• £400k road works start 7 April and will last around 4 weeks
• Works include repairs to kerbs and ironwork, then full resurfacing on Walsall Road
• Traffic lights will be in place 7–17 April, with overnight closures from 20 April (diversions signed)

• New and enhanced bus services in villages near Stone start this week

• Services include Yarnfield, Swynnerton, Cold Meece, Norton, Walton and Aston-by-Stone

• One service restored after being lost several years ago

Children in library with helpful bear

Helpful Bears arrive in Staffordshire libraries to support children’s wellbeing

• Libraries across Staffordshire will have their own Helpful Bear cuddly toy for children as part of a county council school attendance campaign

• Helpful Bear helps children express their feelings and has a backpack where children can place worries that they have written down

• The cuddly toy and associated workbooks, also available in libraries, have been used in schools successfully in helping children overcome barriers to learning

• Staffordshire's Outwoods Primary School has won National Primary School of the Year for encouraging walking and cycling to school

• The Burton school was recognised for its long-term commitment to embed active travel into school life

• Staffordshire County Council has supported the school in achieving this through School Travel Advisors

• Improvements to reducing flooding have been completed in Cannock

• The £40k scheme is part of the ‘A FAIR (Flood: Aware, Informed, Resilient) Approach to Community Flood Risk’ project

• Work included installing anti-flooding airbricks, deflective railings and floodgates
