Promotion of recreational walking

The rise in recreational walking has led to more demand for promoted walking routes. In Staffordshire, the county council and other groups offer many walking options. These include long-distance paths such as:

  • The Staffordshire Way
  • Way for the Millennium
  • Newcastle Way
  • Weaver Way
  • Limestone Way
  • Heart of England Way
  • Gritstone Trail
  • Monarch's Way
  • Beacon Way

There are also shorter, circular walks, many linked to the county’s Country Parks, Picnic Areas and Greenways.

For further information, see our Walks and Country Trails.

The county council helps create circular walk leaflets with Parish Councils and community groups through its Community Paths Initiative. It also works with the Forest of Mercia partnership to carry out its Access Strategy, which includes developing the Forest of Mercia Way.
