Introduction

Staffordshire has over 4,000 km of public footpaths and bridleways. It provides the best way to explore the county.

Whether you explore on foot, by bike, or on horseback, these pages offer helpful info and ideas. The county has long walks like the Staffordshire Way, Way for the Millennium, Heart of England Way, and Sabrina Way. It also has shorter walks around country parks, picnic areas, and greenways. All routes are promoted and waymarked by the county council.

Before you set off, check for any temporary closures or diversions in your chosen area.

We work with parish councils, volunteers, and local groups through the Community Paths Initiative to promote and improve routes for everyone to enjoy.

Responsibility for keeping public paths open is shared between the county council, and landowners. The county council maintains the path surfaces and removes unlawful obstructions. Landowners are responsible for keeping the paths free from obstruction. The county council also ensures that all routes are legally protected on the definitive map. The Rights of Way Guide provides information about public paths that you may want to read. It is not intended to answer every question, but merely to act as a brief overview and guide.

If you do experience any problems whilst using a public right of way, please take time to report the fault:
