Former Saint-Gobain Site – Enabling Works Reclamation Scheme

The county council-owned land off Doxey Road will form part of the Stafford Station Gateway project, bringing planned new homes and businesses to the area. This scheme is a partnership between the borough council and county council and more information can be found in the Stafford Station Gateway Strategic Regeneration Framework which was adopted on 24th January 2023.

The former Saint Gobain manufacturing site was acquired by the county council in 2018 as part of the now completed Stafford western access route scheme. Industrial buildings there were demolished to make way for future regeneration.

Before any development can take place, this former industrial land of around 15 acres needs to be remediated to make it suitable for future development. In December 2025, a former garage building on land close to the railway line was demolished.

Trial Excavation Ground works – February 2026

Trial excavation ground works at the site are currently taking place. During this period, SCC’S engineering partner, AMEY, we will be carrying out trial excavations within the site to investigate ground conditions in advance of proposed further work which will form part of the wider Stafford Station Gateway Project.

We anticipate that the works will cause some noise and vibration and last up to 3 weeks. We will be monitoring this together with air quality to determine the most suitable and least disruptive methods for the main works on the site which are planned for later in the year (subject to planning consent).

The works will take place Monday to Friday 7.30am to 5pm with the noisiest activities being limited to between 8.30am and 5pm.

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience or disturbance which may be caused. We will do our best to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible and would like to thank you for your patience during the works.

The main remediation works across the site are anticipated to start towards the end of 2026 or early 2027 subject to planning consent.

To support these works, Stafford Borough Council secured £20million from the Government, with up to £16.5million allocated to the Doxey Road reclamation works.

Consultation on Proposed Reclamation Works

A drop-in event is being planned for Friday 27th February between 3pm and 7pm at St. Thomas & St. Andrew Church, Doxey Road, Stafford, ST16 1EQ.
