Direct payments for adult social care

A direct payment is when we pay your personal budget to you—if you're eligible and willing—so you can arrange your own care and support, giving you more choice and control over how it's delivered.

Eligibility and how to apply

You can get a direct payment if you:

  • are 16 or over and have been assessed as eligible for care and support; or
  • are a parent of a disabled child who has been assessed as eligible; and
  • consent to receive a direct payment (or an authorised person/representative can consent and manage it for you).

You may need to contribute towards your care following a financial assessment. This applies whether we arrange your support or you use a direct payment.
