Library Service Updates

A major refurbishment of Burton Library begins 1 July

The project will see the transformation of the library space for people of all ages and various community groups. A total of £1.3 million is being invested in the refurbishment project. Please note, to enable us to start the project the library will be closed 1 July – 6 July. This is so a temporary library can be set up in the former café space. The temporary library will open on Monday 8 July. Improvements to the library will provide better spaces for enjoying books, plus many other exciting changes!

The ground floor will transform into a vibrant, multi-purpose, accessible and inclusive space.

A flexible creative space will accommodate a variety of community groups and learning providers.

An area to support community wellbeing, offering quiet space for those needing to escape from noise and sensory overload.

Two sensory nooks, one for teens and one for adults, where people can relax, read or listen to audio with low lighting and fibre optic light panels.

A new children’s area inspired by the beautiful Washlands! And a children’s space with interactive elements and sensory equipment.

A flexible area for all kinds of events!

Plus, we’re going green! Wherever possible sustainable materials will be used, together with reused or recycled furniture. The improvements will also include refurbished toilets and a new ceiling. The refurbishment at Burton Library follows investment at libraries in Codsall, Lichfield, Tamworth, Stafford and Newcastle. Further information about the project, including frequently asked questions can be found on the Burton Library webpage.
