Wodehouse Bridge, A463 Wodehouse Lane, Wombourne

Together with Amey we will be carrying out bridge refurbishment works (phase 1) at Wodehouse Bridge, A463 Wodehouse Lane, Wombourne.

The bridge is a grade II listed, masonry arch structure constructed in the 18th century and refurbishment works are proposed to maintain its structural performance and integrity. This phase of works will include:

  • Further investigation works of bridge deck and utilities.
  • Decommissioning of utilities and preparation of bridge deck for phase 2 works
  • Crack stitching using stainless steel ties
  • Repointing with lime mortar and brickwork repairs
  • Devegetation and drainage jetting.

Phase 2 of the bridge refurbishment works are anticipated to be carried out in 2026, exact details will be confirmed in due course.

When are the works taking place?

The scheme will commence on 21 July 2025.

What is the duration of the works?

Approximately 4 weeks. We shall endeavour to complete works as soon as possible to minimize the impact on road users.

How will the works be carried out?

A full road closure will be implemented for the duration of the works. The A463 Wodehouse Lane shall be closed from the junction with the A449 Stourbridge Road (Battlefield Roundabout) to approximately 550m to the east, at the junction with access roads to Wodehouse cottages. Access to frontages shall be maintained.

During the works a diversion route shall be in place as follows:

When approaching from the west to A463 Wodehouse Lane

  • Continue north at Battlefield Roundabout along A449 Stourbridge Road for approximately 1.6km

  • At the roundabout, take the third exit onto A449 Penn Road, continue for approximately 2.6km

  • At the junction, turn right onto A4039 Goldthorn Hill, continue for approximately 1.4km

  • At the junction, turn right onto A459 Wolverhampton Road East continue for approximately 3.0km

  • At the roundabout, take the third exit onto Gospel End Street, continue for approximately 0.4km

  • Continue onto A463 Gospel End Road for approximately 1.4km

  • At Gospel End the A463 Gospel End becomes A463 Wodehouse Lane

When approaching from the east the above diversion route applies in reverse.

What effect could the works have on me?

We take care to make sure that work is completed with the minimum of disturbance to the local community but as with any road closure, some delays may occur.

How you can help us

  • Please keep children away from the works to ensure their safety.
  • Always adhere to the road closures and follow the diversion routes.
  • Please drive slowly and with caution through the works when gaining access to frontages.
  • Check your shoes before entering your property or car to make sure there is no bitumen from the works.
