Parking bay suspensions and waivers

Parking bay suspensions

If you require parking bays to be suspended and you have gained approval from Staffordshire County Council, you will need to erect parking bay suspension signs in line with the specifications set out by the Department for Transport in the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 -  Section 64 and  Section 65.

View the sign design specifications.

Please note there is a £35.00 application review fee for a parking bay suspension.

You will also need to apply for a parking waiver for all vehicles which park within the bay.

Temporary parking waiver

A temporary parking waiver will allow you to bypass some parking restrictions but will only be issued in specific circumstances. Likewise, if you need to stop vehicles from parking in a marked bay, you can request that the bay be suspended, and if you want to park there yourself, a waiver would also be required.

How much does it cost?

Waiver to park on restrictions:

  • up to two days - £25.00 per vehicle

  • up to one week - £58.00 per vehicle (up to a maximum of three weeks and a maximum of £174.00)

Waiver to park longer than permitted in a limited time waiting bay:

  • up to two days - £25.00 per vehicle

  • up to one week - £58.00 per vehicle (up to a maximum of three weeks and a maximum of £174.00)

Waiver to park longer than permitted in a charged for limited time waiting bay:

  • up to two days - £61.00 per vehicle

  • up to one week £133.00 per vehicle (up to a maximum of three weeks and a maximum of £399.00)

Access permits where provided for in a traffic regulation order:

  • Charge level identified in traffic regulation order or £25.00 where no charge level is identified.

This charge is to cover the cost of our investigations, the issue of the waiver and any inspections. Only payments by debit/credit card or cheque are accepted.

Please note: charges are subject to change.

How do I apply?

Temporary waiver applications and parking bay suspensions, must be received at least 5 working days before you want the waiver or suspension to start. Emergency situations are exempt from this notice period.

Late applications

Please note that for applications received less than 5 days in advance of start of waiver or suspension and no later than 2 days before the required start date, an additional fee of £15.00 is charged for the expedited process.
