Burton tree project: help us track the trees!

Burton on Trent - Save the Trees Project LogoDo you live in the Burton-on-Trent area of East Staffordshire? If so then you might have heard about the Burton Tree Project which is investigating how trees make a difference to our lives.

We need your help

We’ve created three easy-to-use apps so you can tell us:

How will the information be used?Logo for the National Forest

Individual trees and woodlands in towns, including street and garden trees, trees in open spaces, woodlands and hedgerows make up the urban forest.  Urban forests provide a wide variety of benefits to communities and the local economy such as cleaner air, reduced flood risk, more wildlife, higher property values and a more attractive place to live.

We have started to get an understanding of the value of trees in the Burton area through the Burton Tree Project. Surveys by the project have found that Burton has a relatively low number of trees compared to other towns and cities, and that in particular it doesn’t have many big mature trees – these are the ones that give the most benefits to people!

There is still a lot to do and we’d like to hear from you on how to improve and better manage trees in the area. If you have planted any trees recently, including any in your own garden, this will be valuable information for us to get a better understanding of the tree cover and the benefits provided.

Tree planting app

If you have planted a tree recently please enter this on our tree planting app.

My favourite tree or wood app

We’re also really keen to hear about the trees you think are special and important. If you have a favourite tree or wooded area you would like to share with us, use the my favourite tree or wood app.

We’ll review all the sites submitted and consider if there are any special trees or places that we do not know about that might need special management.

Where should we have trees app

Do you have any recommendations where we should have more trees?  You can let us know through the where should we have trees app.  We’ll review all the sites submitted and consider if these can be prioritised for planting.

The development of the apps has been supported by the National Forest Company
