The Chase Through Time
The Chase through Time project was a partnership between Staffordshire County Council, Historic England and the Heritage Lottery Fund which comprised historic landscape survey and research to unravel thousands of years of human activity across the Cannock Chase.
Historic environment specialists worked alongside a team of volunteers to undertake archival research, aerial photography and lidar mapping and interpretation along with field survey to establish the form and extent of the archaeological remains and help us undertand how our ancestors managed and worked their environment.
The project covered the Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), an area of over 67km2 rich in wildlife and heritage. The AONB has many other designations and parts are protected as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC), Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSI), Conservation Area, Scheduled Monuments, Registered Parks and Gardens and Listed Buildings.
