Welcome to our Countryside Volunteers webpage. If you are looking into ways to make a difference to Staffordshire’s beautiful Country Parks, Cannock Chase National Landscape, the Rights of Way network or Staffordshire’s Historic Environment we will love to hear from you.
What can volunteering do for me:
Volunteering is a rewarding experience and provides many benefits and these include:

What we are looking for:
You will need to:
- Be able to represent Staffordshire County Council in a positive and unbiased manner.
- Have a friendly and positive attitude with good communication skills.
- Be able to follow instruction.
- Have a love for the countryside.
- Attend SCC volunteer training and any other relevant courses.
- Agree to wear suitable clothing and footwear.
- Be keen to be outdoors in a range of weather conditions and walking over a range of terrains (role dependant).
What to bring with you:
Countryside volunteering involves being outside in various weather conditions and walking over various terrain types. We therefore recommend suitable outdoor clothing to suit the weather conditions and a good pair of sturdy boots and if possible, steel toe capped boots. You may also need to bring a packed lunch with you as you may be on a remote site.
What type of tasks could I get involved with?
Activities and tasks will be many and varied and will include:
- Clearing footpaths and vegetation.
- Heathland management.
- Grassland management
- Wetland management
- Installing signposts and way markers.
- Other environmental and conservation work.
What skills or experience do I need?
No particular skills are needed. We only ask for enthusiasm and a reasonable level of physical fitness for outdoor work. The work will often be in remote areas and at times, access to toilet and washing facilities may be limited.
Training
On site training will be provided, along with an opportunity to attend other related training from time to time.
How can I get involved?
New volunteers are always welcome. Volunteers will be asked to register their interest by completing a short form. If you are interested in joining us please complete the form below.
