Gardening Woodcraft and the Environment
To introduce and help you feel more confident in gardening, wood working, and conserving our natural environment. Complete design and build projects as part of a team with other learners, and develop your personal skills too.
Who is this course aimed at?
This is an introductory course for Staffordshire residents aged 19+ who would like to support their wellbeing, learn new vocational skills, including those who are experiencing or recovering from mental ill health or people who have a learning difficulty or unemployed.
Entry Requirements
No prior experience is needed to take part in this course, just an interest in gardening, wood working, and conserving our natural environment.
Course Content
You will be introduced to wood working skills, designing and building a garden woodwork project using recycled/upcycled materials, selecting, using and maintaining appropriate tools, planting and propagation, eco friendly gardening practices to encourage wildlife into your garden, and protect our natural environment.
Learning Methods
This is a face-to-face learning course with a 'learning at home' element - you will complete 4.5 hours face to face at CARE with 30 mins home learning per week. The course will provide an opportunity to develop your digital skills further, socialise with others in the learning environment. Learning is also supported with an on-line Padlet learning blog.
Learner Support
Your Tutor will support your learning, including help with IT skills to photograph and record your work. Transport is available from Cannock Leisure Centre, Penkridge Village, Stafford Sainsbury's, The Royal Oak car park at Rising Brook.
Course Assessments
At the start of your course the tutor will find out a little more about you, your previous learning, the support you may need, what you would like to achieve on the course and guide you to set some personal goals. During the course you will be asked to reflect on your learning at regular ponts and will receive feedback from your tutor on your progress and achievement. You will receive a personal certificate of achievement at the end of the course.
Learning Materials
All course resources and equipment will be provided by CARE. You will have an opportunity to forage for natural resources and use upcycled materials too.
What can learners do next/progress onto?
At the end of the course you will be provided with information/advice on other learning opportunities/local activities available on-line and in your community. This could include vocational skills courses in Horticulture, Environmental studies, Green Crafts, and wider personal development including English, Multiply numeracy and digital skills. Family learning/wellbeing courses to support you and your family are also signposted through SCC CL Course Directory.
