Floristry and Plant Science

This course will cover a wide variety of floristry techniques to reflect changing seasons. Plant Science will underpin practical work. Shared reading and practical visits will be included in the course.

Who is the course aimed at?

Aimed at those who wish to develop a deeper understanding of horticultural science this course will cover a wide variety of floristry construction techniques to reflect the changing seasons with plant science underpinning all practical work. The course provides opportunity for learners to make a range of floristry items in line with the seasons, some of which will contribute to local venues such as Sudbury Hall or charitable community events.

Entry Requirements

Staffordshire residents aged 19+ who would like to support their wellbeing, are experiencing or recovering from mental ill health or people who are unemployed and would like to re-engage with learning. Learners need to be able to set and monitor their own learning goals and objectives and complete an enrolment form and course documentation unaided. 

Course Content

You will learn a wide variety of floristry construction techniques for each season using fresh, dried and faux plant material. The course will include shared reading and industry visits. Learners will develop the knowledge and skills to not only make products but also consider opportunities to sell their own goods via a range of channels. 

Learning Methods

Practical tasks, discussion, shared reading and individual learning plans that track personal development and progress.

Learner Support

Learners will have an initial assessment via a phone call or face to face meeting as an introduction to the course and to establish needs.

Learner Assessments

Learner progression is assessed via completion of individual learning records and regular reflection/feedback.

Throughout your course you will be provided with information and advice about other learning available for you. Learners can progress onto further learning, volunteering or employment.
