Start reading English - for Speakers of Other Languages.
Who is the course aimed at?
For Staffordshire ESOL residents aged 19+.Start reading in English. Recognise letters, read simple words and important information.
Entry requirements
An ESOL tutor will talk to you before the course starts to see if this is the right level for you.
Course Content
Recognise letters, learning the alphabet in upper and lower case. Read important information. Learn more vocabulary. This course also helps with speaking and writing English.
Learning Methods
You will work in small groups with a friendly and supportive tutor. Some activities will help your digital skills - on a phone or the library computer. You will be asked to complete some work at home to help your progress.
Learner Support
Your tutor will get to know you, what you want to achieve and support your progress. Please discuss any specific needs with your tutor so we can support you.
Course Assessment
Your tutor will review your class work and home work - there is no exam
Learning materials
On enrolment you will need to provide proof of ID (passport, national ID card, driver's licence) and proof of eligibility. For the course you will need a pen, a note pad and a documents folder. For homework you will need an internet connected device, either a PC, a laptop, an iPad, tablet or smart phone - you could do this at your local library.
What can learners do next/progress onto?
You tutor will give you advice. You could go on to do Entry Level 1 Reading or other entry level courses. Other community learning courses.
