Digital Internet Skills

Have some very basic knowledge but need a refresher on using your device or the Internet. This course will explore filling out online forms, downloading and uploading files such as pictures, PDFs and Menus, Sharing files and attaching to emails as well as saving to folders and drives.  Explore apps and settings and searching online for Information,  Price comparisons, Maps, Shopping and Public Services all with safety, privacy and protection in mind.

Who is this course aimed at?

This course is for Staffordshire residents aged 19 and over. The course is designed for learners who have some knowledge of using a computer, wanting to find out more about their device and the internet to support employability skills and for in everyday life and work. This course is a progression course from Beginner Digital Skills.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Course Content

This course is aimed at those with some very basic knowledge or those who have completed the Beginners Digital Skills Course. You will explore your device and settings, including space, mobile data usage and how applications use allowances, including installing, uninstalling apps and freeing up space. You will enhance your internet searches by planning journeys giving specific dates and times, calculating costs of travel and holidays and hotels.  You will also further your shopping skills, compare prices and look at submitting information using forms.  You will look at downloading timetables, menus, manuals and schedules as well as uploading files to cloud storage and attaching to emails with the importance of identifying privacy and scams online.

Learning Methods

Teaching will include tutor led sessions in small groups, 1:1 tuition, tutor demonstration, quizzes, and practical exercises. You will work at your own pace and will complete the activities using your device or the library computer. You learning progress will be recorded.

Learner Support

Your tutor will support you throughout your learning journey.  Your tutor will get to know you and what you want to achieve from the course and include this in the delivery of sessions.  You will also have the opportunity to have some one-to-one time with your tutor.

Course Assessments

Throughout the course you will complete a number of tasks relevant to your learning.  Your tutor will give you feedback throughout using an Individual Learning Plan.  The Individual Learning Plan records your learning and your achievement.

Learning Materials

On enrolment you will need to provide proof of ID (passport, national ID card, driver's licence) and proof of eligibility. For the course you will need a pen, a note pad and a documents folder. For homework you will need an internet connected device, either a PC, a laptop, an iPad, tablet or smart phone - you could do this at your local library.

What can learners do next/progress onto?

Throughout the course your tutor will provide you with information and advice about other learning opportunities.  When you have completed this course, you can progress onto another digital skills course.  You may also want to gain a qualification to help you develop more skills for everyday life or for employment.  You can also learn at home using Learn My Way, Skillswise or BBC Bitesize websites.
