Aims of Course

The course is aimed at Staffordshire residents aged 19+ who live in Staffordshire, Staffordshire Moorlands (excluding Stoke-on-Trent ). The course is for individuals who want to further progress their skills and knowledge by working on a community-based project, where you will explore all aspects of gardening.

Entry Requirements 

No prior knowledge or experience is required. An interest in gardening and supporting your local community is advantageous. Potential learners must be willing to commit to all course sessions and be willing to work towards learning aims and complete a learner journal.

Course Content

The course covers tips for creating stunning garden spaces that everyone can enjoy in a community setting. You will gain plenty of hands-on experience, develop transferable skills to apply in your own garden, and learn to design spaces that thrive. Throughout the course, expert support will be provided to help you enhance your gardening skills and boost your confidence. Whether you are a beginner or looking to expand your knowledge, this course offers something for everyone.

How you will learn?

Learning methods include hands-on gardening activities, group discussions, and tutor-led demonstrations. You will engage in practicals, allowing you to apply new skills directly to real garden spaces. Interactive learning sessions and personal guidance will help you build confidence and deepen your knowledge. With a focus on experiential learning, you will gain valuable skills while enjoying the process of transforming outdoor spaces.

Our friendly tutors provide regular feedback, encourage your progress, and ensure you feel confident. We are dedicated to making your gardening experience enjoyable and accessible to all learners.

Course Assessments

Assessment for this course will focus on your practical gardening skills, including plant care, garden design, and teamwork. You will demonstrate your ability to enhance community spaces through hands-on projects and showcase your understanding of sustainable gardening practices. Feedback will be given on your contributions to group activities and individual tasks, helping you build confidence in transforming local green areas and fostering a positive community impact.

Learning Materials

All materials will be provided, including seeds, gardening tools, and various soils. Feel free to bring your own gloves, boots, or tools. You will receive a notebook to track your findings and gardening ideas. As part of the course, youwill also grow cut flowers that the community can enjoy later in the year, showcasing the beauty of your hard work. Be ready to get your hands dirty and have fun while gaining practical experience!

Learners can explore further courses on offer from term 3 2026, and the new academic year 2026 - 2027.
