Assess

Concerns about sensori-neural hearing loss are identified at birth but other conductive, and sometimes temporary hearing loss, such as glue ear, can develop as a child gets older and this could be identified when a child is in early years.

If you are concerned about a child's hearing, discuss this with parents and advise that they request a hearing test from the GP.

Hearing can also affect language development so please refer to the Communication and Interaction section of the toolkit for more advice on assessing language development.
