Application process and timeline

September 2026

You can make a late application by completing the application form.

September 2027

You need to apply for September 2027:

  • if your child's fifth birthday is between 1 September 2027 and 31 August 2028 for a place at first, infant or primary school
  • if your child will be in year 2 at an infant school in September 2026 for a junior or primary school
  • if your child will be in year 4 at a first school in September 2026 for a place at middle or primary school

Changing schools in-year? 

If you wish to transfer your child to a different school during the academic year, or if your child currently lives in Staffordshire and does not have a school place, please see our information on in year admissions.

Timeline

November

  • Applications open on 1 November 2026.
  • You should apply through the home local authority where your child lives.
  • We strongly advise you make more than one preference.
  • It is recommended you include your catchment school.  Please see information on catchment areas.
  • If applying for an academy, foundation or voluntary aided school, you may need extra information or a supplementary form.

January

  • Applications close on national closing date, 15 January 2027.
  • Applying late may affect the outcome of your application.

April

  • Parents get their offer on National Offer Day – 16 April 2027.

April to August

  • Late applications processed.
  • Available places offered from waiting lists.

June to July
