Application process and timeline
You need to apply for September 2026:
- if your child's fifth birthday is between 1 September 2026 and 31 August 2027 for a place at first, infant or primary school
- if your child will be in year 2 at an infant school in September 2025 for a junior or primary school
- if your child will be in year 4 at a first school in September 2025 for a place at middle or primary school

Timeline
November
- Applications open on 1 November 2025.
- You should apply through the home local authority where your child lives.
- We strongly advise you make more than one preference.
- It is recommended you include your catchment school. Please see information on catchment areas.
- If applying for an academy, foundation or voluntary aided school, you may need extra information or a supplementary form.
January
- Applications close on national closing date, 15 January 2026.
- Applying late may affect the outcome of your application.
April
- Parents get their offer on National Offer Day – 16 April 2026.
April to August
- Late applications processed.
- Available places offered from waiting lists.
June to July
- Independent panels hear appeals.
