Bikeability national standard cycle training
Bikeability is the government’s national cycle training programme. It helps children develop the skills and confidence to cycle safely on today’s roads with three different levels of training offered in Staffordshire depending on a child’s age and year group.
For more information on the different levels of Bikeability and to see which is relevant to your child please see the Bikeability Trust Website
What’s Available
Cycle training in Staffordshire schools is fully funded by Active Travel England through the Bikeability Trust, and delivered by our delivery partners across the county.
Training places are available across the 3 core levels to support pupils in Staffordshire which include:
- Level 1 training offered to year 3 or 4 pupils where available and delivered on the school grounds to prepare children for level 2 training and build key skills.
- Level 2 is On-road training for Year 5 or 6 pupils. Offered to every school in Staffordshire.
- Level 3 will equip children with the skills needed to stay safe in more challenging situations and is usually delivered to pupils in year 7 and above.
Additional Training Modules
Selected schools may also access Bikeability Plus modules:
- Learn to Ride – For pupils who need support to ride unaided.
- Fix – Teaches basic bike maintenance, usually for Year 6 pupils.
These modules are limited and not available to all schools.
