Information and costs

How much does a sign cost?

There is a non-refundable application fee of £120. Additional costs for administration, design, and maintenance will apply and are quoted exclusive of VAT. All further costs are paid by the applicant.

Apply for a tourism sign

Tourism signs (white on brown) are for directional purposes only and not for advertising. A tourist attraction must be a permanent area or building that is open to the public without booking during normal opening hours.

Applications for new tourism signs are temporarily paused while we undertake a review of the current process. This does not affect applications already submitted before 5 June 2026, which will continue to be processed and assessed accordingly.

Apply for an amenity sign

Amenities must meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum of 5,000 visitors per year
  • Open at least 50 days per year
  • Only signposted from the nearest A or B road, town, or village

Eligible amenities include:

  • Retail facilities
  • Recreational and sports facilities
  • Schools and children's nurseries
  • Churches and places of worship
