Highways crews from Staffordshire County Council are inspecting a retaining wall in Wetley Rocks that has collapsed and made the nearby path and road unsafe.
Barriers and two-way traffic lights have been set up temporarily on the A520 Cheadle Road near the Powys Arms pub while crews assess the damage to the wall in preparation for the repairs.
Patrick Allen, Cabinet Support Member for Highways North at Staffordshire County Council, said:
“Our crews are on site investigating the collapsed retaining wall to fully understand the extent of the damage and what repairs are required.
“Keeping drivers and pedestrians safe is our priority, which is why temporary barriers and traffic lights are in place while the checks are carried out. When crews have identified the potential cause, and the required repairs, any necessary works should be completed as soon as possible.
“We thank people for their patience and would ask drivers to take extra care if passing through the area. Further updates will be shared as soon as the investigations are complete and the next steps confirmed.”
