Cannock Library - Mary Shelley’s Creation

A read-along session of Mary Shelly's Frankenstein or a New Prometheus

Mary Shelley’s fabulous Gothic novel ‘Frankenstein or a New Prometheus’ published in 1818 has entranced generations of readers. The Story was dreamed up by Mary Wollstonecraft (Shelley) during a stormy night at the Villa Diodati on Lake Geneva accompanied by Percy Shelley, Dr. Polidori and the mad, bad, and dangerous to know Lord Byron.

In a truly incredible performance Mary Shelley is portrayed by Penelope Ferguson whom the audience join as she revisits the Villa Diodati in 1827. Her three companions on that night in 1816 are all dead and she now considers her life. Just as in 1816 it is a stormy night, and she falls asleep. She is awoken by a banging on the door, and she is confronted by her creation, the creature from her novel (played by Andrew Lound). Is she dreaming? Mary must confront her creation and her own demons.

Frightening themes adults only.
