Staffordshire preliminary flood risk assessment

One of our statutory obligations arising from the Flood Risk Regulations 2009 is to undertake a preliminary flood risk assessment (PFRA). These are required to be updated on a rolling 6 year basis.

The purpose of the PFRA is to assess surface water flooding from readily available information obtained through a data collection exercise on past and future flooding.

The assessment identifies any flood risk areas, firstly of national significance and then of local significance.

We completed our first preliminary flood risk assessment in 2011 and this is available from the Environment Agency website.

Section 19 flood investigations

Under the Flood and Water Management Act 2010, as the lead local flood authority, we have a duty to investigate significant floods and publish our findings.

Our Local Flood Risk Management Strategy defines a significant flood as one that affects five or more homes or two or more commercial properties.
