The Moors Gorse Grazing Scheme
Work on the Moors Gorse grazing scheme started in 2021 with around 6 cattle grazing the site from the summer of that year.
The scheme has enabled people to see conservation grazing in practice on a small area of Cannock Chase.
During this time cattle have arrived on the heathland each spring and spent the season wandering around the site grazing the vegetation.
We have carried on with the usual heathland operations: such as clearing areas of scrub, cutting patches of heather and creating shallow scrapes of bare soil.
We are pulling together any lessons learnt from the project before we finalise details for looking at expanding the grazing work on other areas of the Chase.
