Overview
The Afghan Resettlement Programme (ARP) brings together existing Afghan resettlement schemes and was launched in December 2024.
Government guidance includes:
- Families arriving through the Afghan Resettlement Programme can stay in temporary accommodation for up to 9 months. This gives them time to settle into life in the UK and prepare for independent living.
- The Government recognises the pressure on housing and the challenges many Afghan families face when looking for a home. To help, it funds and supports access to settled housing for around half of those arriving through the programme, particularly those who face the greatest barriers to finding accommodation.
-
Support is provided through:
- additional funding for housing projects
- community sponsorship schemes
- some Service Family Accommodation
This helps ensure there is a supply of long-term housing to support the programme.
- The Find Your Own Accommodation pathway helps Afghan families move from temporary accommodation into privately rented housing. This guide explains how to look for suitable accommodation and the support available from the council during the process.
